Florida RV Camping Tips

How do I book state and federal campsites in Florida?

Visit the Florida State Parks reservation site to search for campsites at Florida's state parks

Recreation.gov also offers campsite bookings for certain federal sites throughout Florida and other states.

How do I book a site at Fort Desoto?

Known as the most desirable public campground in the West Central Florida area, Fort Desoto offers shaded campsites a stone's throw from the Gulf of Mexico (with some sites offering direct waterfront views).  Fort Desoto's campsites can be difficult to book during the high season, so we recommend planning well in advance.  We have had some luck finding cancellations at Fort Desoto, by checking the website frequently.

Wandering Labs is a service that will continually search for openings for your desired dates at Fort Desoto and other popular parks, and notify you by text or email so you can quickly book the site.

What is the closest recommended campground to the Coastal Campers base?

Hillsborough River State Park is an ideal choice for a family who would like to try travel trailer camping without a long haul.  The park is only about 15 minutes from the Coastal Campers base, and offers great recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, and kayaking.  Coastal Campers also offers a very low delivery fee to this park, due to its close proximity to our headquarters.

Why is it so hard to book a campsite in Florida during the high season?

Florida's public campgrounds offer a winter refuge to northern snowbirds, who populate our campgrounds from November through April.  The parks also experience a higher demand from Florida residents seeking to enjoy weekend trips, and these factors make it difficult to book a site!   We recommend checking reservation sites a few times a day to find last minute cancellations and available sites.  Don't overlook privately owned campgrounds such as Canoe Outpost Little Manatee River, Ginnie Springs, and county parks such as Hart Springs.
